Now that my wedding has passed, I can finally share the bridesmaids hoodies I made for my girls here on my blog. It had been a surprise, so I didn’t want them to accidentally stumble upon them had they viewed my website for any reason.
I choose hoodies for my girls because 1. They are more versatile than the other popular choice - bridesmaids robes - as everyone can use a hoodie, and 2. My wedding was at the end of September, in the mountains, where I THOUGHT it would be cooler throughout the day and night (ended up being 80 degrees!). I made sure they were zip-up hoodies so they didn’t have to lift them up over done-up hair, and they were a thin/stretchy material for added comfort.
After getting some feedback from other brides-to-be and past-bridesmaids, I found that most people didn’t really want something that said “bridesmaid” all over it. While I kept the design of the hoodies to my forest/mountain theme and my colors, I customized the fronts with their names (instead of their titles) and also kept my wedding date off of them. This way, if they decided they liked them enough, they could wear it out in public without it being too awkward and wedding-specific.
I purchased the actual hoodies online at Kohls - they come in a few different colors and a variety of sizes. I created the design in Adobe Illustrator using icons, styles, and the tagline from other elements I had designed for my wedding, as I liked to keep consistent with the aesthetic. The design was cut out using my Silhouette Cameo and heat transfer vinyl that I purchased in white and sunflower yellow. Once cut, I used my heat press to professionally press the design on to the hoodies to ensure they would last for years to come.
A few months before my wedding, I actually started offering this hoodie design (along with custom designs) on my Etsy page to help pay for some wedding expenses. They were extremely popular and I had a blast making all sorts of fun hoodies for other weddings.
Since orders started getting a little overwhelming as my wedding approached, I took the listing down indefinitely. I have yet to put it back up, but feel free to follow me on Etsy or shoot me a private message, as I do see myself doing them again in the future.
My girls loved their hoodies and, knowing their personalities and style, I felt like I made the right decision, as it’s a gift they can actually re-wear!
